Breeding and Artificial Insemination

At Orchard View, we constantly set goals. We began our Artificial Insemination (AI)program in 2001 when we inseminated a half dozen does. Since then, each year we purchase some of the country's finest semen and inseminate our top 20 does. We choose this semen carefully in order to maximize our herd's genetic potential. We rethought our goals 3 years ago when we shifted 90% of our breeding program towards the production of monster typicals. We have since made great genetic strides by incorporating what we feel are some of the industries greatest typical bloodlines into our herd! These include old school bucks along with the hottest new bucks as well. We're excited about these bloodlines which include the likes of Amos, Bambi Escalade, Banshee, Missouri Thunder, PA Geronimo, Thunderstorm, Marty Graw, GD Romeo, BJ, Rambo, Loner and Fearfactor just to name a few!!!

In an industry where 200" 2 year olds are now common, our other goal is to keep 10% of our herd in what we call "junk"! We're realists and recognize that inches still sell! Our goal for this portion of our herd is simple and lofty at the same time... It is to get the majority of our two year-olds over the 200" mark. We've are acheiving this by using such great producers as Rolex, Stargazer, Lonewood, Loner, Avalanche, and Flees's Lucky to name a few! In the past few years we have produced many 2 year old bucks that have surpassed the 200" mark!

At Orchard View we use 4 individual pens for fawning. During the fawning season, we check the pens twice daily to ensure damside identification. Fawns are tagged immediately and doe fawns are "pulled" after 48 hours to be bottle fed.
