Breeding and Artificial Insemination
Each
year, Orchard View uses individual pens for single sire
breeding. We keep breeder bucks in their respective breeding
pens until they shed their antlers in early to late winter.
Sires of all fawns are DNA guaranteed. During the fawning
season, we check the pens twice daily to also ensure damside
identification.
At
Orchard View, we constantly set goals. We began our
Artificial
Insemination program in 2001 when we inseminated a half
dozen does. Since then, each year we purchase some
of
the country's finest semen. We choose this semen carefully
in order to maximize our herd's genetic potential.
Our
current goal is modest: to get the majority of our two
year-olds over the 160" mark. After we achieve
this, we will continue to "raise the bar" to
strive for even higher standards.
